Aly & Fila “Quiet Storm” Interview:

Dayanna Guerrero (Ascendance Radio): Now “Quiet Storm” is your second album, your first, “Rising Sun” was released back in 2010. For fans of “Rising Sun”, how does “Quiet Storm” compare?
Aly & Fila: We feel Quiet Storm has more maturity to the album, Rising Sun was our first artist album, and you could say was a trial run on how to do an artist album, we were very happy with it, but we also learned a lot from making the album and also helped us to learn and rectify any certain mistakes we felt we made with Rising Sun.
Dayanna Guerrero (Ascendance Radio): What’s the concept behind your album cover?

Aly & Fila: Well we wanted to do something different and fresh. We got tired of all the posing etc… So when we met the designer, he understood our point and he took the artistic direction and we got this result which we love so much.

Dayanna Guerrero (Ascendance Radio): When choosing vocalists or producers to work with, how do these collaborations come to be? Is there ever a moment when you hear one of their tracks and you make a mental note to yourself that you have to work with them in the future is it more complicated than that?
Aly & Fila: There are always artists and singers that we would like to work with , we do have a list of singers or artists that we would like to collaborate with. You can unearth a hidden talent out there, that is really cool when you are the first artist to work with them in your fiend / genre of dance music

Dayanna Guerrero (Ascendance Radio): Speaking of collaborations, you have a lot of big name producers and vocalists that trance fans are familiar with like Solarstone, Sue McLaren, Chris Jones and more. One name that didn’t stand out to us but sparked some curiosity is Karim Youssef, whose vocals can be found on the intro track “Laily”. So first, what does “Laily” mean and can you tell us how you came to work with Karim?
Aly & Fila: Laily means the night, and Karim is one of many talented Egyptians who didn’t get his chance yet to shine. but we are always searching for new talents and Karim is definitely a great find!!
Dayanna Guerrero (Ascendance Radio): Recently you’ve been linking Youtube previews of some songs from the album like your tracks with Arctic Moon “Daydreaming” or your track with Jaren “End Of The Road”. Do you ever get nervous that the tracks aren’t getting either as big as a reaction you had hoped or the kind of reaction you were expecting?
Aly & Fila: We have faith in the music we make, we are very happy with each track on Quiet Storm, you have to have confidence in the music you make or there would be no point showcasing it to the world. Of course you want the tracks to get as much positive response as possible, and for the track to grow and grow

Dayanna Guerrero (Ascendance Radio): You’re also currently on a “Quiet Storm” U.S. tour with stops in Washington D.C., Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas and more. How has the reception been so far?
Aly & Fila: We have just completed the tour, was great, unfortunately we did not have physical copies of the album, but we showcased a lot of the album at the events and the reaction to the tracks has been really good, we are very happy with that. And a lot of interviews we had over there had heard the previews prior to the interviews and  told us good things about the album which was really great to hear
Dayanna Guerrero (Ascendance Radio): If you had to choose 1 track that personally resonates with you the most on the album, which would it be?
Aly & Fila: First Sun is possibly our favourite track of the album, it is very similar to one of earlier singles ‘Lost Language‘ , really hits you deep in the heart
Dayanna Guerrero (Ascendance Radio): Now 3 years is quite a long time, especially to be working on an album. At what point did you finally know it was done? That it was finally ready for the world?
Aly & Fila: We did not want to rush it out, we wanted to make sure we took our time and worked on every track until we were 100% sure it was ready, earlier this year we knew ok let the Storm strike

Dayanna Guerrero (Ascendance Radio): There are a variety of ways to measure success when it comes to album. Months from now after “Quiet Storm” has been released, how will you measure whether or not it was a success in your eyes?

Aly & Fila: Even before the album is out we can feel positive feedback, we are sure people will enjoy the album, it has  a variety on it from Uplifting, Euphoric, downtempo, chilled, hopefully months later people will recognise the Album as being success , we are confident
