After discovering the art of DJ’ing, Miss Nine set out to tip the scales in the male dominated DJ world. With her musical taste and talent ranging from dance to house, to a deep progressive sound, Miss Nine has caught the attention of club-goers and many famous DJ’s alike. We had another chance to catch up with the beautiful Kristin and here is what was said:
Miss Nine Interview:
Dayanna Guerrero: We’re here with the always lovely Miss Nine. So Miss Nine, you did a set at Monarchy not too long ago and now you’re back to Miami playing other venues but more specifically Ultra Music Festival once again.
Since we last spoke, you have been on tour for the release your latest album, “Around the World”. What has that journey been like for you?
Miss Nine: The journey has been amazing so far. I mean, I travel every week. Like when we released the album, it ranked 16 on Beatport Top 100; I was very happy about that. Well, all of the tracks do well and I love to play them. High Rollers, artists I’ve signed to 925 Label, and yeah it’s been amazing so far. Now today we’re here at Ultra and the weather is great, my voice is almost gone.
Dayanna Guerrero: Don’t worry mine is too.
Miss Nine: The last day and yeah, I’m enjoying it so far.
Dayanna Guerrero: You will be a part of the historical A State of Trance 550 in Den Bosch in the Netherlands. Since your sound is a bit more house and progressive, what were your thoughts when you were invited and what can fans expect to hear once you take to the stage?
Miss Nine: Well Armin, he asked me to be part of A State of Trance because he came up with a female stage called the “Pink Stage” and he really loves to support women. I think its great exposure to be part of that stage, let your music be heard and be part of it.
Dayanna Guerrero: With your recent release on Armada and your performance at ASOT 550, would you ever consider making a trance track, possibly under another alias?
Miss Nine: Well I don’t know, never say never. The thing is, with the trance, it’s very melodic and emotional and I really liked it and in some of the tracks that I play there are breaks too that have the same feeling. Yeah never say never.
Miss Nine & Dayanna Guerrero: (Laughs)
Dayanna Guerrero: Looking back at your music career, were there any specific moments where you were playing a gig and thought to yourself “Wow! I can’t believe I’m doing this?”
Miss Nine: Yes, of course there are some gigs, especially now here today. I am hosting the Live Stage and I’m playing with different bands. Yesterday I played with M83, Kraftwerk and all the other bands. So you have to improvise and you have to be on top of their sets because you do the change over’s. Sometimes I think, yeah I played some totally different style but it’s still my style and I have to say I love it and I’m open for different styles. Maybe I’m going to pick something of one style and mix it up with my style and come out with a new record.
Dayanna Guerrero: Electronic Dance Music has been going mainstream lately; do you find that you are evolving your sound to fit the mainstream demand?
Miss Nine: Yes it’s definitely main-stream, but still the “Miss Nine” style and I’m busy with a bunch of new records so keep eyes and ears open.
Miss Nine & Dayanna Guerrero: (Laughs)
Dayanna Guerrero: What impresses me most about you personally is that not only are you constantly playing gigs around the world but you’re able to keep your modeling career simultaneously. In between the shows and the modeling, do you find the time to breathe, relax and do something else that you consider fun? And what does “fun” look like for Miss Nine?
Miss Nine: What does fun look like for Miss Nine? Well that’s a good question! You know, hanging out with friends. I have a big kitchen and I have very good cooking skills so friends love my cooking. You know having friends or family over, do normal things. I like to do a lot of sports and of course listen to other people’s music. You know, I’m living the dream and on tour sometimes you don’t get much rest but as soon as there is some and you’re on a nice vacation like Mexico of course I go to the beach and enjoy the sun. This gives you so much energy so my batteries are charged very fast.
Dayanna Guerrero: You recently became an ambassador for Plan Nederland, could you tell us more about that organization?
Miss Nine: Yes I can do that. Plan Nederland is part of Plan International and this is like a children’s rights organization that support children, poor children in poor counties and areas. I liked their campaign “Girls First” because I’m a girl in a male dominated world and I know that girls in those poor countries don’t have the opportunity to go to school, to get educated and have a bright future (what I have). I sponsor four girls now financially and I visited a project in Bolivia so I could see when Plan’s help is involved. I try to talk a lot about the problem and get other people involved in it and solve the poverty.
Dayanna Guerrero: Bring awareness to it.
Miss Nine: Yes, exactly!
Dayanna Guerrero: Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations that you would like to talk about?
Miss Nine: Yes, of course. I just released a track with a Dutch DJ/producer Baggi Begovic called “Hit The Road“, people like it. I’m busy with a singer from the U.K., a singer from America and definitely now during the WMC conference we have made new contacts and I can’t wait to get back home and get into the studio with some of the artists.
Dayanna Guerrero: Well Miss Nine, it was really great to see you again and we wish you all the best!
Miss Nine: Thank you very much.
Dayanna Guerrero: Thank you!
